Amps for 2009 Tour

Postby abstamaria » 06 Jan 2010, 04:05

Dear all,

Can someone pleas tell me what amplifiers the Shadows used for the 2009 tour? I know this has been taken up, but cannot find the thread.

Many thanks.

Andres,
They were JMI amps. They are copies of the original Vox AC30s, & are marketed through the 'Music Ground' people in Yorkshire. They are also extremely expensive.

I wonder what the circuit mods are?

"Notes, Based on the tonal requirements of both hank + bruce each amplifier carries unique circuit modifications to create the bands classic tone"

They are actually made by Music Ground at their factory at Carcroft just outside Doncaster. If you want to sound like Hank and Bruce, you all need to buy one . . . . . . . .

In truth, any Vox AC15 or AC30 valve amp that has been fitted with Roger Alcock's EF86 based 'Vintage Unit' at around £100.00, will give you all the Hank tones that you will ever need. The biggest factor of achieving the tone is I'm afraid in the hands of the player. The Bruce tones are easily acquired by using a Vox amplifier fitted with Top Boost.

It has the same effect, Keith, being the original AC15 (EF86) preamp, wire directly into the modern amp's power amp. I have one and it's wonderful!
