This one is KOK TIKI and yes I know it isn't the 'right' echo, but it'll do for today.
Klemt Echolette / Watkins Dominator (which is where Dick Denny nicked the idea from for the AC15) ;)

I'd agree with that - if you listen really carefully to the original recordings, there's a fair bit of 'graunch' to some of them. But many people try to use far too bland a sound, which just doesn't cut it.

Don't lose sight that what I'm trying to do here is show that the pickups of ordinary guitars are adequate to do the job.
I have access to Squier Classic Vibe, Tokai (the latest Chinese ones) SX Strats as well as top line Fenders', all of which need to be recorded and compared, through the same amp and echo with the same settings, just to show that silly money will not buy THAT SOUND. My aim is to show that modestly priced gear will get you well inside the ball park, hence my use of the Boss Katana, rather than the Vox AC30/4.

There is a fair bit of 'graunch' Steve and it's often overlooked. I was astounded when I first compared my effort of Midnight to Hank's and immediately wiped it and did it again adding more high mid, but it still falls short of Hank's tone, I know that.
I can't get to my Vox AC30/4 at the moment because it's buried in my studio, but when I do, I'll do these again through that amp, using all the 'attitude' that it has to offer.
The Klemt Echolette doesn't quite work like a Meazzi on the tone side, as it has a preamp with tone controls, where the Meazzi didn't, but it does add some 'grit' to the sound so I will try to keep it flat and let's hear what it used to sound like back in the day. :)

Incidentally, I look forward to Charlie Hall's new pedal, the EF86 Emulator being released, as I have heard some very impressive demoes this week. :)

Well Dave, you've got the sound of the lead guitar without a doubt. Difficult to achieve.

You're also using the original BT which helps to colour the tone of the lead guitar. How did you manage to eliminate Hank from the original recording?

Should have added that I was talking about the Mustang file

Thanks Terry, Roberto gave me a load of Shadows tracks with Hank removed back in 2004.
I'll do that one again with the UB Hank track, or I'll dig ours out, just to show it sounds the same, there's nothing remarkable about the gear used, many of the people on this site have the same kit.. :)

Thanks Martin, now here is another recording of Wonderful Land with all different gear, guitar, echo amp - all different .
The only thing the same as the other recording is me. ;)
This is to demonstrate that anyone can get close.

Hi Dave,

Honestly, there isn't a single tune on your posting that I didn't find almost as good as the original.
You have really done a great achievement with simple tools. Bravo!
You mentioned a new unit from Charlie, is it the Collins / Charlie or a new one?

Blessings,
Abel
