F B I with the TVS3

I cobbled together a BT from The Shads and added the drums because they were lost in the losing of Hank.
Jet and Bruce do make a massive difference though as I always suspected.

Thanks Roger, it is indeed interesting how much difference the 'real' feel helps it along and I'm setting myself a challenge to reproduce the bass and rhythm parts with the same definition.
I won't hold my breath though because I have never heard it sound right by anybody, including The Shads. I suspect more than one rhythm maybe present, does anyone else hear that ?

(the definition of 'right' in this case, is that it sounds and has the same feel as the record) :)

That will be very interesting indeed. I have never heard anyone reproduce what Bruce and Jet did in that recording session. The arrangement everyone, including the Shadows, uses is fine but just not the same as the record. Good luck with it, Dave.

It's always been an enigma for me has FBI, because it is iconic. The one and only time I heard something close to the record was on Crackerjack and Hank fluffed the solo, though I didn't know that back then. Since then there has been a version of the Crackerjack footage that has had the actual record overdubbed to the film track. Confusing to say the least.
Can anybody else hear two rhythm guitars in there because there is an overlap at one certain point ?

Always thought FBI had a big sound going on a bit like The Wall Of Sound recording sound. I know that type of recording involved using at least two of every instrument and plenty of reverb . The bass in FBI is notably prominent and the rhythm guitar is too quite forward. It just hits you as soon as it starts before the lead guitar comes in.

Edit - had a listen to original tracks and did not hear two of anything , but bass is quite forward in mix maybe in both channels , rhythms not as loud as I thought it was . Lead seems to have reverb and delay to my ears .

Christian gets the sound pretty close overall

Yep. Definitely. They don't play the same thing, tough. One of them ghosts the bassline.

By the way, cracking sound, Dave. About as good an FBI sound as I've heard. You've really captured the full, explosive timbre of Hank's attack. You're hitting the strings hard but evenly so the overall result is powerful, measured and smooth, yet not so hard you lose timing or control (which is what I've often heard others do when trying to capture the recorded sound).

Brilliant. :)

Thanks Justin, I no longer find pick control easy since the chemo, but if I work at it I get through and I am determined to make this last as music has helped me through.
I'm pleased you can hear what I'm hearing, in no way am I being critical of Bruce and the lads when I said nobody had played it the same, we can't do it either.
If we knew how they'd done it we'd stand a chance. I thought Hank may be a part of that backing on another 'take', but that would have meant using two machines.
