Whilst not the longest serving number one single in chart history, it stayed at the top for longer than any other number 1 of the 1960s, so at the time a feat unmatched by the Beatles or the Stones. Surprisingly beaten as the instrumental to spend the longest at the top spot though, by Eddie Calvert who managed 9 weeks with 'O Mein Papa' in 1954. I would think Wonderful Land would be the record with appeal outside those who could afford a gramophone :)

Worth mentioning though, that Elvis (It's Now or Never), and The Archies (Sugar Sugar) both also spent 8 weeks at no 1 in the 60's, matching The Shadows run. Notable though, that they out did Cliff in this respect!
