As I said, the 'harmonising' was in name only. They actually did nothing but change the acceptable tolerances. The voltage in the UK has stayed at a nominal 240V and in Europe it should still be 220V. The worry is that the designers might not have known that - unless they checked on the internet of course!

Mine is 200V_230V 50Hz
Presently my line provides 245V but usually 235V
From having asked a few weeks ago, to the utility Company France sticks to 230 V -6%/+10%

OK Alain - I'm a bit surprised at that. I didn't think any rules applied to France.

There is an European standard for low voltage electricity suppliers. It's the EN 50160. For the UK it's the BS (British Standard) EN 50160 (for Holland NEN-EN 50160). I know that for not UK countries the voltage is nominal 230V +/- 10% 50Hz ( to night in my home 231V). Manufacturers all over the world do certainly know this standard. With the CE mark they confirm that the equipment apply to EN standards.

Hi Peter,

Does that mean by selling 220 - 230v amps here they are not complying?

I guess that as long as they work properly with 230V ±10%, they are complying, regardless how they are labelled.

Hi Amanda,

Important is what the BS EN 50160 says. I don't have that standard. If the standard says the UK maximum voltage is 240V + 6% the situation is technically ok, because 240V + 6% is about the same as 230V + 10%. Confirmly it's wrong, because the nominal voltage (240V) should be noted on the amp. If the maximum voltage is 240V + 10%, the amp doesn't apply the standard. In both cases it's wrong. In case of an official complaint Vox, could be prosecuted for not applying European standards. I don't believe it will comes so far. Didier says the UK amp, is the GE amp with another plug is right, thus wrong.

I found this link about standard voltage in the UK . This means that Vox Heritage series confirms the European standards.
