Roger, I didn't need to add any EQ on the desk, it was more a case of taking away some top & bottom end to match the original that we had running on the CD player, constantly doing an A/B comparison. In the raw, the sound coming from the AC30 was phenominal and would grace any stage in the world, with what would be most folks perception of THAT SOUND, but the truth is that the original record is nowhere near as 'bright' or 'wet' with echo/reverb as we imagine. To appreciate this, you need to have a good listen, though a good system with a 'flat' response that doesn't 'colour' the tone. I fully uderstand what you are saying and agree that it should be right, but when you compare them side by side it isn't. Maybe there could be some minor adjustment to tone and echo, I'll go in and have another look and listen, with fresh ears. The beauty of my recording system, the Roland 2480, is that it saves the settings and automatically sets it up again as it was on the last mix.
I used an AKG C1000 to record this and the other version of The Savage, after years of using the excellent Russian ' Oktava' condensor Microphone that I favour, I found that this one delivered the guitar sound more honestly which amazed me, but there you are.
