Test on the KINGSTON LIVE sound

Postby abel » 21 May 2010, 04:47

Hi all,

I hope you are all doing well.
I thought I would post this short test on the Kingston live sound,: Little B.
I like very much Hank's sound on that CD.
The CD is playing through the speakers behind me and my amp is a little more upfront so my guitar is closer to the
camcorder hence louder and clearer.
I used my new VOX AC30CC2 and my Mex 50 Classic. I start on the 2nd phrase.
I am sure most of you with vintage reissue strats and Blue speaker VOXs can get a much closer sound.
I will probably use this setting at our gig next week in Hermosa Beach.
I hope you find this test interesting.

Blessings,
Abel

Hi all,

Glad you liked it,
Spike, good to see you here. It will sound better when I retire and get the TVS3.

The only buttons I use are the Volume and the Master. All the switches are set to their default except
the input switch which is set to link the 2 input. I am plugged in the input closer to the amp front.
All the buttons are set to 0 except the Volume which is set between 1 and 2 PM, and the Master which is between 3 and 4 PM.

Next I plan to play Hank's part with Cliff Richard's original "The Young Ones" (not the live one). I think I found the correct sound (no drive here
like in the Kingston live).
I wish I could do it tomorrow Saturday, but I am excited to go see Nokie Edwards in Burbank where he is playing with Deke Dickerson and the Eccofonics in a show called "Venturemania". I' ll keep you posted.

Blessings to all,
Abel

Hi Ian,

I forgot something, and it could be an important factor in the sound.
I finally settled for my ideal string gage with which I feel very comfortable, without missing
notes and still able to do pulls easily:
I use D' Addario this way:
- 3 lower strings ---------> 12th gage (.032, 042, 052)
- 3 higher strings---------> 13th gage (.013, .017 and a .020 plain).

Blessings,
Abel

Hi Abel,
Thanks for your comment regards the Frightened City soundfile, just to say i enjoyed listening to yours, i have always admired your technique on the Strat as it results in the great tone you have produced here with Kingston Little B and The Young Ones, nice authentic early Hank tone on both, excellent.
Regards,
Phil.
