OXYGENE IV Video from Phil & Andy

Postby Phil McGarrick » 03 Jun 2010, 10:36

Here is a joint effort from myself and my son Andy of the Jean Michael Jarre song Oxygen IV
Hank played it on his Heartbeat Album. The superb backing track came from Joytrack in Denmark. http://www.joytrack.dk/index-filer/page0008.htm

Hope you like our version- we certainly had fun making it.

Greetings from the Internet Bar at the Crown Hotel (aka Backpackers) Glastonbury.
What a beautiful day it's been.
We all agree that this is a Splendid piece of work - even the Folk Singer brigade in here (gets slap on head!) think it's a Belter!
And all those notes speeded up together at 2.03 (ish) - surely that cant be real!!
Birgit, dispenser of Latte and carrot cake wants to know who the headless guitarist with the "orange" guitar is.
I told her, - "that's Andy."
She said - I know he's handy but who is he?"
Lovely job, guys!
cheers

Hi Phil,

Great work there from yourself and Andy. I assume that Andy was playing what looked like a PRS to me. I think you used one before with one of your videos. Was it the same one? The video was excellent too with some great close-ups of the fingerboard. The video was very clear and I could probably play along with it following the fingerwork. I hope though that Andy does have a head. ;) and that we could see the full person sometime.

You both did really well with that piece. The two guitars presented a great contrast. I think I have seen Hank play it before live but assume he probably just used the one guitar though I guess it could have been possible to change guitars quickly with all the help he would have access to on stage. All in all, a first class effort from you both. Thanks for sharing it. :) :) :) :)

Regards,
Len

Thanks very much Fred, Roger, Ian & Len for your replies.
Yes the PRS is the same one I used for Sylvia & Kiss from a Rose. It has very light strings on it making bending easier.
The fast run at 2.03 ish is the reason I got Andrew involved - basically I couldn't play it and even Hank didn't play it on his live concerts, just his studio recording.
Andrew has got a head  but didn't want it filmed so his Cubase students at Stroud college couldn't take the p*** out of him. :D :D :D

Excellent Phil & Andy, as usual. Thanks also for the close ups - that will save some time when working this one out

Phil - the fast run looks too fast for me as well. However, like you, my name is Phil and I too have a son called Andy who can play much faster guitar than me - it must be a generational thing - they weren't brought up with ration coupons like us

Thank You Phil & Lynn for your kind comments - It's much appreciated.

Phil -That's quite a coincidence that you have a son Andy who playes guitar also.
It's amazing how fast they learn nowadays with all the tuition on the internet etc.
And before you know it they have overtaken you.
I thought it was illegal to "Bend" strings for the first 20 years of playing :o

Great work Phil & Andy, a fabulous performance.

Sorry I won't be seeing you in September as we have cancelled our UK/Europe trip - partly due to money matters but also I'm getting a bit travel weary as this would be my 12th trip to the UK in the last 20 years; also my ski'ing-ruined knee is giving me hell and I need to rest up a while. Please let Lisa know that we won't be coming if you would be so kind. Maybe next year.

P.S. I have a lot of Jarre backing tracks including all the Magnetic Fields stuff and about 20 different Oxygene and Equinoxe versions, so if you want enything else it will be my great pleasure to send them to you.

Tony
