Players like that either inspire you or make you want to sell all your gear! He truly is amazing. Imagine what he could do with a Strat! I believe he did play a Tele at one time.

If he came to the Hankies I'd vote to let him in for nothing .

Where's bloody Alan Bakewell gone to these days ?

Hi Chris and All,

The man can play.

I was very fortunate once. Through special invite, I had the chance to watch Tommy at very close quarters a few years ago. I was amazed at the energy that he puts into his playing. He hits the strings with such confidence and power that you can almost feel it yourself.

His brother Phil is not bad on the guitar either. They both toured and played together for many years as The Emmanuel Brothers and some may remember them playing 'Terra Firma' (from Phil's CD of the same name) at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney (it's on YouTube). Phil plays quite a bit of Shadows material and they were obviously a big influence on his style, as also with Tommy, though perhaps to a lesser extent. They even got to play with Hank, Ben and co. at one stage too (I saw it on YouTube a few years ago).

Thanks for sharing that Chris.

Regards,
Len

I saw him at Martin Taylors guitar festival many years ago. He was using that well matured and well beaten up Martin acoustic with a small also well matured and beaten up Fender amp with amazing sound results :wtf:
I could'nt believe what I was seeing. The pa system packed in while he was in the middle of a song, so unfazed, he just sang into the soundhole of his guitar and then went into a crazy solo to the end of the song. He was definately the star of the show without any doubt. He even blew away Martin Taylor :o

That was at Kirkmichael (I think that was the name), anyhow, are you sure it was a Martin? I've been going to see him for many years now and he always uses Australian made Maton guitars.

Well for a start it would sound different from a Maton acoustic! I'd just be interested to hear how a Strat would sound in his hands, that's all. He wouldn't be able to beat it like a drum, either!
