John,
I don't imagine that there is anything drastically wrong with it. It just needs a good set-up, & as was mentioned earlier, some lubrication of the nut. The Trem action needs to be set up to suit yourself via the rear access plate. Don't give up on it.

Tony.

Took it back to the dealer this afternoon. Put my side of the story and one of the techies had a go at it.
He agreed with everything I said, and he agreed that the guitar was unplayable in its present condition and not fit for purpose as I had suggested.
Theyre going to get a replacement from Fender instead of a warranty job.

Theres a moral to this story.. What kind of guitar shop (that employs more than one techie) has on display a guitar thats unplayable? As I said before Always ,always, check everything you can whilst in the shop. Glad you're getting a replacement!

Belive it, believe it not, I sent a new Gibson Les Paul back to Norlin in 1977 .
The action was worsening as the weeks went by, I think the neck was warping or something.
Gibson offered to replace the neck or swap the guitar which I did.
The moral being, it doesn't matter what you spend, it can always go wrong.
