Odd Couple/Odd Player Too!!!

Postby Bluesnote » 16 Oct 2010, 08:04

I should'nt really post this as its firstly, not Shadows and secondly, its pretty crap, but it was one of my first attempts at recording myself with a new video recorder I got last Christmas in Canada and I'd also just bought a Squier Bullet to keep me in practice while I was over there.
The playing was just off the cuff as I was concentrating more on what the recorder was doing that what I was doing.
Its interesting though to watch yourself when playing back. I did'nt realise I fidgited so much when playing amongst other embarassing stuff.
Its a great learning tool though, makes you take more care of your playing I think. And hopefully inprove future examples.

Loved it, played with feeling.
Nice left hand vibrato and great clock.

Thanks ecca for the kind words although I think it has room for much improvement.
My son once asked me when I was playing a Shads number to a backing track why I did so many upstrokes with my pick.
I replied:"Eh????" I did'nt realise how much I did that til I watched this early recording. I cant believe I do it so much(and here's me thinking I'd followed the Bert Weedon book to the letter  ). I've been trying to sort it although I dont know if its changed much yet, I'll need to do some more recording to find out :?

I love the music of Neal Hefti - so good choice!

But why so slow in tempo?

I think it sounds so much better at a slow tempo. It allows more feeling to be put into it. I had a cd with Martin Taylor playing it and its much the same tempo as I did.
