Killing me Softly. HD Video

Postby Phil McGarrick » 06 Nov 2010, 00:45

It’s hard to believe it’s over 8 years since Hank bought out his Guitar Player album.
I remember it well, - I was touring Ireland and I could hardly wait for the shops to open on the day it was released.
And then I drove the wife crazy as I played the CD constantly for a week on my car’s CD player as we toured around Ireland.
I love the way Hank plays the acoustic – Fantastic - In my opinion his best solo album.
I’ve recorded 6 songs from this album so far, and now Ian McCutcheon has bought out Workout 15 with 2 great versions of Killing me Softly Backing track on, one with the 2nd guitar and one without.
Ian has done a great job and I asked him if he would do a 3rd version – one without the drums so we could do our own thing on there. He kindly agreed – so here is the result of Ian’s BT with 2nd Guitar , Andrew’s drumming and my acoustic lead.
Hope you like Killing me softly.

Cheers Phil

3)What s/w did you use to edit?

Hi Walt,
I've use a set of Elixir nanoweb acoustic Light strings 12,16,24,32,42,53
The cam is the same as I always use a Sony SR12 hard disc recorder which records in 1920x1080 AVCHD format
The S/W is Sony Vegas Pro 9.0 (64 bit).
The only downside of editing in HD is if you have several takes in the timeline is slows the computer up
even with a very fast processor and 4 gig Ram.
Thanks for your comment.

Cheers Phil

Hi Phil.

Loved it

I have been playing this for a few week at the Hankies but have used my Strat until now. I'm going to rush out right now and get some Elixir 12s for my Yamaha.

Thanks

Having risked life and limb cycling round the ring road, I've now got said Nanoweb strings. Bl**dy Hell, they are expensive :o (15 sheets to quote Mick in the shop). Never mind, I don't change the strings on my APX-6A very often and have always wanted to try a lighter guage. They claim to last 3-5x longer. Now for Benny's Toon and Windmills.

Hi Phil,
Those Elixir's are a bit pricy but they last such a long time.
I usually wait until stringbusters send me an email with a special offer
3 sets for the price of 2 and take advantage of that.
Many thanks for your comment. And good luck with Windmills & Benny's Toon - Cheers Phil

Hi Phil,

I love that Hank Marvin CD too. Your version was a little different but it's all good, as they say. It sounds great. Your playing is excellent as usual and the overall production was superb. Well done. :D

Great stuff Phil and such a great crisp clean sound out of that instrument. Dare I say it, but I think its a breath of fresh air hearing a guitar other than a Strat being played on this site 8-) I think had you used your Strat, it would'nt have had as good an effect as this. Makes it your song I think :)
A couple more from that guitar would do just nicely mate

Hi Phil
Just a Spot On as ever!!!
Superb!
What a great way to spend a Sunday recovering from the unbelievably mega-watt Disco I had to endure last night!! Had the dancers pinned to the back wall with all the massive Bass he was pumping out!
All beautifully smooth and expertly played as always. Lovely sound from the guitar too. Risky Phil - I have those strings on MY Yammy APX already and I have to say it DOESN'T make it sound like Phil's!!
I have Ians CD but do you know if THIS version is going to be made available??
cheers
