This evening, I watched the last of the "Taggart" episodes I recorded on the Sky+ a couple of months ago. The programme originally featured a theme song sung by Maggie Bell from "Stone The Crows", but these days, it has a superb rock guitar instrumental intro. Short, but very punchy and with a catchy chord sequence.

And it's still current - some new episodes have recently been shown by SMG in Scotland, though ITV plc has (as yet) no plans to show them in England and Wales.

That version of the Taggart theme was in keeping with the original vocal version Jim. There is a totally new recording being used now which isn't a patch on the two earlier versions. It's quite fitting really because the current series is not a patch on the old ones.

The new (latest) version of the "Taggart" theme was presumably introduced because of the arrival of NICAM stereo. I couldn't find a stereo version on Youtube!

This may not be well known but the theme music used in the House TV programme is a an instrumental version of Teardrop by Massive Attack. Check out the original version at: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=house+theme+music&aq=0
(ex-guitar player) - now a ukulele and ukulele bass player!

Although it's not current (it's now eight years old), the first season theme for "The Wire" was sensational: Down In The Hole by the Blind Boys of Alabama.

new Tricks theme sounds very much like Travelling Wilburys " End of the Line" which I think was the programmes original theme tune in series 1. one my fave themes was the Billy Bunter one , which I think was Vaughan Williams "Song of the Sea"
Mike oldfield did it as "Portmouth" -(I think) but left out he very melodic middle bit!

Hi all.
A new BBC prog, starting next week "The Indian Doctor" has I believe, one of the Shadows big hit's as it's theme tune.
Regards Geoff.
