Quick test of ZoomG2.1Nu & EFTP

Postby Rosemary » 17 Nov 2010, 09:36

I bought a Zoom G2.1Nu and Charlie's patches so tried them out today and did a couple of very quick recordings (There are lots of mistakes but I didn't have time to re-record them - and would have probably made the same mistakes or some new ones anyway.) Also I still need to play around with the MicroCube amp settings to get the best result but that will come in time too. In the meantime I'm really pleased with the very much improved sounds and it's just a shame that my playing doesn't do them justice.

Anyway as always any feedback is welcome. I haven't got the palm muting right yet but maybe I'm getting closer with that slide in Apache - but it's still not exactly right yet. It and the galloping are my biggest problems there.

Wonderful Land
(All went totally pear shaped after the muted bits as I'm re-learning this one in a different position and it's taking ages to return smoothly from the muted bit and grab the trem bar. I just wanted to hear how it might sound when I improve :))

Much better sound. Much clearer. And the notes are more distinct.

May I suggest that In the intro to Apache slide up very quickly from the note G to the note A on the E string with your 4th finger then play the notes A, G and E. It will be a lot smoother that way.

Thanks Michael
I'll try that. I forgot to mention that's another bit that I'm trying to perfect. It's much trickier than it looks I find. :)

I realize that it's tricky, Rosemary. But I can already see and hear a big improvement in your playing!

That's great news Michael. Thanks. I get a bit frustrated with the slow progress especially when I played something e.g. Wonderful Land a few months ago, better (in 1st position) than I do now in the new position but then there are some things I can do now that I couldn't do back then so if it's starting to sound better to others that's very encouraging :)

Hi Rosemary
A big leap forward in tone, dont you think?
The Apache slide is coming on fine - you just slid one semitone too far forward thats all. The muting sounds OK too.
Wonderful Land - dont we all do it - that "Black Hole " moment! However if you take out the goofs, the important thing to notice is the Progress that is being made.
I think that in the end you will outgrow the MIcrocube as your playing improvements demand a better sound. But for now, it sounds fine.
cheers

Thanks Ian and Keith for your encouraging words
I hope I don't forget everything I've learnt the week I'll be away at Christmas. Otherwise I'll have to buy yet another guitar for the holidays! :)
Best wishes

ah Yes - you've got "GAS" - Guitar Acquisition Syndrome. I remember it well.
At one point I had 8 guitars, bits to make up (probably) several more - and then my WIfe  found out!!

Hi Rosemary,

Yes a great improvement in tone, and as Ian & Micheal have said coming along nicely. (BTW I too have a Zoom G2). Keep it up. If it's any consolation I quite often make a cods of WL

Brian.
