Thanks so much for watching! I use the Long Tom, through a Vox Tonelab (Amp Simulator). I still own the ESE Echomatic VI which sometime I use it along side with the Long Tom, I mean use them both at the same time. The Long Tom was restored and modified by Paul Rossiter of TVS here in Australia.

I didn't say it wasn't the Vox echo - I was interested in the amplification that I couldn't see, which Robbie explained is a Tonelab. This tone is what is lacking in GeGe's sound. Apart from the echo machine, I actually think that the guitar and the way it is being played is where the tone is shaped and is the major factor here.

Ah, finally someone who has THAT SOUND without using an amp!! This has been my theory for a long time. I use the Ampworks, which, like the Tonelab, is also made by Korg and uses the same excellent REMS technology . . . Good for you Robby/Robbie . . . I hope to hear more of your magic!

Hi Dave and Bojan,

I like the tonelab because in my opinion it is able so simulate a Vox amp that is cranked up to a very high volume before it distorts (maybe around 7-8) to get that barking and natural compression which I think sounding best at that volume. The same applies to Ampworks which is also a fine little gadget. You can't do this with a real amp without bothering your neighbors or your ears if you like me playing home. Voxes are very loud amps.

Bojan and Robbie, are the workings of the Tonelab and Ampworks anything like those of the Vox Valvetronix? The reason I ask is that I have owned several Valvetronix amps from 2001 when I bought the big 120watt twin speaker jobbie, down to the only one I have now which is the VT30. I can get similar sounds to those of my Vox AC30 and AC15 that are quite acceptable, but never exacly the same. I would be interested to see your settings to achieve your sound.

Dave, yes, I think they are all based on the same REMS technology.

What is REMS?

REMS (Resonant structure and Electronic circuit Modeling System) is KORG's proprietary sound modeling technology which precisely reproduces the complex character and nature of both acoustic and electric instruments as well as electronic circuits in real world environments. Thanks Bojan, I'm delighted when you guys come up with information about gear that I don't know too much about, I am too busy playing around with the regular stuff that we gig with, valve amps etc. It interests me to know that there are gadgets that are available to do home recording and achieve the right results - I envisage that one day when we downsize our home I will no longer have my studio and the option of making a lot of noise so I need to think ahead.
