Well, my first band broke up in 1968, but they didn't call me....

They called me after the Split festival in 1967, but I was already playing in my own band, so I turned them down!! :wtf:

Don't ask me where it came from, but I found this 'Newsletter' in my 'Files various' whilst I was looking for something else, it may have a small bearing on the original question for this thread perhaps? :)

I was looking through Bruce's autobiography this morning, and he does mention that they "attempted to recruit" John Paul Jones but decided he didn't quite have the image they were looking for. John Rostill was invited to audition at the Palladium, played 'Dance on' with them, and that was that.

I don't doubt Rob's conversations with Hank and Brian regarding the events of early 1969; my own view was based on the press coverage at the time which featured photos of Hank alone in the studio, playing his green Burns Marvin with captions such as "The lone Shadow". However, it is significant that even Hank made no major return to touring until MWF, so he clearly wanted a change of pace and the chance to focus on recording.

It came from the New Musical Express, as described. More accurately, it was transcribed - by me - from a photocopy of that particular page. I can't remember who gave that to me (George? Alan?).

Where did you find it?
