Weekend guitar practice madness

Postby Rosemary » 05 Dec 2010, 13:28

I've done all the Christmas shopping and most of the wrapping so spent lots of time playing with the new Zoom G2.1Nu and Charlie Hall's patches this weekend. There are still lots of mistakes in my playing but the new sound makes me want to play more as the guitar tone sounds infinitely better now. I'll be guitar-less for a week over Christmas but hope to make lots of progress in the new year.

(am re-learning the beginning all over again since this was recorded)

Best wishes

Definitely getting there. Just a couple of tips after listening and watching...

I think you're a little too tense and that's throwing the guitar out of tune a little. Concentrate on holding the tremolo arm very loosely. During normal play you shouldn't be moving it even if it's in your hand. When you want tremolo on long notes move your hand without purposely moving the tremolo, you'll find it works.

You lost the timing a little at the start of TFYL. Easy to do and a lot of people have that trouble. Listen a few times to the track while imagining the melody in your head.

Keep up the good work, you're doing very well.

Bob.

Hi Bob and Ecca
Bob: Thanks very much for your comments and having a listen. I'll keep an eye on what I'm doing with the trem bar and you're right about being tense because I was pressing my right arm tightly against the guitar on the weekend when I did lots of practice and am paying the price now.
I also think I'm pushing down too hard on the strings and bending them slightly because even when I'm tuning up without the trem bar there seem to be pitch variations depending on how hard I'm pressing. I'll be really happy when I can stay dead in tune. :)
The TFYL backing track has a very short click track (hope that's what it's called) so it's a bit of a race once I've pushed the start button on the player and I usually miss the beginning.

Ecca: How many ladies do you want to marry? :) My dentist sent me a Christmas card today.

All the best
