SILVER BELLS (Another Ventures Cover)

Postby geronimo7476 » 05 Dec 2010, 05:36

Here's my other Ventures tune, no more I promise. I recorded this one because I think they did a fabulous arrangement here, I just tried to 'mellow' it a bit. I hope you enjoy it too!
My set-up is the same as on Sleigh Ride.

I agree about the wonderful Californian laid-back feel!

Is that the Jim Reeves song, Charles?

Thank you Jim, much appreciated. Jim Reeves? I'm not sure, I guess this was sung by quite a few greats in its time. The version I copied was the Ventures version. Not being a real Ventures fan, and The Shadows never having recorded a Christmas album, I tried blending the one's arrangement with the other's sound, hence the ShadowyEagles Ventures tune!!
Hang Jim!! I just looked it up on Wikipedia. It was recorded by over 180 artists Bob Hope being the first in 1950.
Jim Reeves did record it in 1963.
Thanks again for listening,
Cheers CC

BEING a life-long Ventures/Nokie Edwards/Gerry McGee fan, this is a fantastic arrangement and sounds like something Nokie might have recorded. :D

How much of the backing stuff did you play and how did you do the drums?

Hi Walt, Thanks a mil!! This tune and Sleigh Ride are both from the Ventures Christmas album as close as I could get them but with my own sound which was supposed to be as close to the Shadows as possible. Both tunes were recorded the same using my 82 Strotocaster for the lead and all the harmonies, a Tanglewood Jumbo on two tracks for a stereo rhythm, Fender P-Bass and for drums I use the first version of Groove Agent and program the arrangements myself. The only effects here are, ZOOM2000 with EFTP with additional delay from my Cubase plugin (Double Delay) and a Boss Stereo Chorous set to zero but 'On' to give my lead line a stereo effect on two channels. My recording program is Cubase LE
Thanks again Walt, and if you listen to SANTA BABY, the setup is exactly the same except for a slide guitar on the Chorouses on my 82 Strat.

Cheers CC

Pure magic CC

Everything sounds perfect, and the sleigh bells add that special Christmas touch. This is going straight into my Christmas folder!!
