LAST TRAIN HOME by Ian and Mitch

Postby Stratpicker » 29 Jan 2011, 15:39

A Joint Collab between Mitch Mitchinson and myself. Quite a bit different to my usual stuff but there is a strong Shadows connection.
A Pat Metheny tune which must be 20 years old by now. This soundfile is based on the version recorded by Mark and Warren on their “Close To The Hedge” CD. (I hope it pleases Andrewshadowy !!)
Runs at 160bpm.
I did the basic BT in BIAB (if you’re interested - DublinRk style and Real Drums RockEven16 running outside its speed envelope). The opening Solo and bridge Solo sections are Mitch on his Korg synth. He also did a marvellous job playing additional specific flutes, pan pipes, digipiano, synth, strings, and choir for the infills etc. Brilliant!
Guitar is my usual Brason Strat. I'm playing outside my Comfort Zone here – Bags of OD, Compression and amp Gain. Not my usual style so I hope its OK.
All mixed down in good old Cakewalk (Guitar Pro2).
I know its nearly 5 minutes long but I hope that you enjoy it. It certainly was Fun to put together.

Cheers

Well - What can I say!! "Close to the Hedge" is one of my favourite CDs and you have both done a terrific job on this collaboration.

I've tried many ways to get the superb guitar sound that Mark Griffiths achieves on that CD with little success but you have come very close to it here Ian.

Excellent.

Hi Ian & Mitch - A brilliant joint production. :D I love this song - It's one of those that fits the
title so well. Some great guitar playing - really like the OD sound and the effects.
The flute solo on the keyboards is excellent. A great soundfile.

Hello CC, Bri ( I told you the next one was going to be noisy!), RogerA, Phil McG, and our lovely Ecca ("Conkerooney" to you too my friend :? ) for the so very kind comments.
A collaboration is the sharing of a Project, and therefore sharing of all the accolades, and Mitch certainly did everyone proud with his stunning work on the Korg. It would have been much less of a Sound File without his help.
Its one of those tunes that sticks in your brain until you just HAVE to do something about doing the darned thing yourself.
It was quite basic gear in use - - Guitar (Brason Strat With Kinman FVs) - OD pedal-Compressor pedal - Korg Ampworks - PC. Thats it !!
The OD isnt quite as I had hoped it to be. In hindsight it might have been better not using the tiny Korg Ampworks but using my VoX VT60 amp for real and getting the output stage to work hard and keeping the volume in check with the Master Vol control. But for a £19 amp modeller it did OK in the circumstances.
cheers
