Palm muting technique

Postby Rosemary » 30 Jan 2011, 11:12

I made a quick recording of Atlantis today as I think I might have worked out how to palm mute properly (hopefully) and wanted to get it on film as a reminder for next time. I only get it right about one in ten times at the moment but at least it's a bit of progress and quite exciting. The only problem is that my technique doesn't work as well for Wonderful Land as it then doesn't sound muted enough although my husband likes it and says the muted notes shouldn't be as subdued as I usually play them. Anyway as it's recorded I thought I might as well post it but warning, there are a lot of mistakes and it's nowhere near as fluent as it should be. I remembered to smile at the end for Ecca's benefit but felt a bit silly . :)

That was ace Rosemary, you're coming on a treat.
The damping was fine and your fluency improves with every new tune you play.
Waggle the trem now and again or there's no point holding it only to loose it.
It still looks a bit too free in the thread the way it falls down .
That smile...... marry me Rose !
( after you've tuned the D string, it was a little flat, )
Great stuff !

Very nice indeed Rosemary. You come on in leaps and bounds, a nice sound too.
Keep at it :)

Thanks Brian and Ecca :)
Ecca: I tuned it before I started playing so think it might still be a bit of a problem with my technique where I accidentally bend the strings a bit . I catch myself doing that sometimes - although it would be nice if it were the tuning and not me. :) When I get a bit more confident I'll tighten the trem bar but at the moment it sort of gets in the way if it's too tight and throws me a bit like the different trem bar of the Mexican Strat also does until I get used to it.
All the best and thanks again :)
