Smoke Signals

The Outlaws recorded some great guitar instrumentals in the early 60s and this one is from their LP "Dream of the West".

Like many other groups of the time, their sound was quickly recognizable.

I hope that you enjoy listening to it. :D

Beautifully done Roger!. Some authentic reverb on your guitar there.

Hi Roger
Must admit to knowing little about the Outlaws. You've done a great job with the "feel" of the piece and the guitar sounds absolutely smashing. Loved the Vox Humana coming in towards the end - that made me think of the Joe Meek touch.
Spot on!
cheers

Hi Roger - Really nice tone on your guitar. Not a song I know but played perfectly.
Especially liked the dampened parts.
Cheers Phil

Thanks for that Ian and Phil.

Ian, I thought that I'd heard of most different kinds of Vox amps but I can honestly say that I haven't come across a Vox Humana ! ;) :D

Nice sound and playing but to be honest IMHO a very mediocre tune.

Hi Roger,

Nicely played . . . but wouldn't have expected anything else!!

I too was a fan of The Outlaws, my personal favourites being "Swingin' Low" and "Last Stage West".

Regards

Thanks for your reply Brian - The Outlaws didn't record all that many instrumentals but there were a few gems.

Dave - I do agree that the melody line in this number isn't a strong point, but in my opinion the sound that Joe Meek was able to achieve more than compensated for it.
