A drier Shadows sound

Postby chai » 21 Feb 2011, 16:23

I recorded this with a 62 Strat with very small amount of echo. I reckon Hank used Burns guitar for this song on the session.
Though I'm not real sure. Perhaps if was the drier Hank's sound that got me thinking that it was a Burns.

I was surprised how well that sounded, very nice indeed. The excellent playing helped, of course!

Hi Chai, Your playing was amazingly close to HBM and the sound too was very close although I'm sure that Hank used Burns on 'Dance With The Shadows' If you really, really want to be picky, Hank used a delay with about two repeats, very close to the beat, but quite soft. I also prefer as little delay as possible that I can get away with. It's very easy to give it just that too much to ruin a good recording.
Back to Zambezi, I love what you did, pity you're not on my side of the world, I'm getting very fond of playing rhythm!

Good one Chai,
Cheers, CC

Hi, many thanks to both you. To get as close as you can to the grand master Hank’s playing probably gives the same personal satisfaction to me and perhaps millions of others. In fact, I made it my own personal holy grail :))
BTW, the desktop recorder today sure makes it all so much easier.

cheers!

Hi Chai,
I was very impressed with your playing - Really smooth and relaxed with the same feel as Hank put into it.
I also thought the sound was just right. Great soundfile..
Cheers Phil

Very close to the original lead sound!

One of my favourite Shads album tracks. Nice one.
