There are some errors here - compounded / repeated from earlier erroneous sources. I thoroughly researched the Shadows at the BBC archives nearly 15 years ago and the results were published in "Shadsfax" #37 - which is now long - out of print.
The Shadows (Drifters) did appear on Saturday Club on 20 - 06 - 59 backing Cliff. They didn't perform any tracks in their own right on that day. Nor did they perform "Driftin' " on the BBC in 1959. Likewise "3 - 30 Blues" and "Dooby Dooby Wah" were only ever performed on Radio Luxembourg. Here's the complete BBC Radio listing for 1959 and 1960.

14 / 3 / 59 - Saturday Club - "Jet Black"
5 / 9 /59 - Saturday Club - "Jet Black"
24 / 10 / 59 - Saturday Club - "Jet Black" / "Guitar Boogie"
19 / 3 / 60 - Saturday Club - "Bongo Blues" / "That's My Desire" / "Jet Black" / "Saturday Dance"
9 / 7 / 60 - Saturday Club - "Quatermasster's Stores" / "Apache" / "Baby My Heart" / "That's My Desire" / "Bongo Blues"
6 / 8 / 60 - Saturday Club - "Apache" / "Quatermasster's Stores"
7 / 8 / 60 - Easy Beat - "Apache" / "That's My Desire" / "Saturday Dance"
24 / 8 / 60 - Parade Of The Pops - "Apache" / "That's My Desire" / "Quatermasster's Stores"
1 / 10 / 60 - Saturday Club - "Cerveza" / "Apache"
5 / 10 / 60 - Parade Of The Pops - "Walk Don't Run" / "Apache"
5 / 11 / 60 - Saturday Club - "Walk Don't Run" / "Man Of Mystery" / "Apache" / "The Stranger" / "All My Sorrows" / "Driftin'"
19 / 11 / 60 - Saturday Club - "The Stranger" / "Man Of Mystery"
7 / 12 / 60 - Parade Of The Pops - "Man Of Mystery" / "The Stranger" / "Apache"

Best wishes to all.

Hello Rob,

Thank you for your detailed information. I notice that quite a few tracks were featured on multiple shows. Are they all different recordings or are they all or some the same?

Hello Ivo,
Every track was a unique brand new recording. It wasn't until 1966 - 67 that the BBC began to start re - using pre - recorded tracks in different programmes. I will work my way through 1961 soon.
