Tribute to Johnny Lundin & P.O. Alm - My Jig

Postby abel » 11 Oct 2011, 05:18

Hi all,

Some of you might have seen it in the old SM website, but before posting this, I made sure that I never posted it
on this new site or on Youtube before. I loaded it today on Youtube.
(This time I also made sure I didn't post the original like I did for Blue Star)
I payed a modest tribute to our friend Per.Olof. Alm (P.O. Alm) and his colleague Johnny Lundin who composed
this beautiful classical-like tune he called "My Jig".
I liked it so much and hope you will like it too (not my version as the sound is really bad), but the original that
P.O. Alm will post soon I hope.
I also hope that our talented guitarists (from this and other Shadows sites) will make a cleaner version of it.
This tune need to be promoted among guitar players as it is truly a wonderful composition.
Here is more information about this tune:

Per.Olof Alm (not to be confused with Roger Palm the drummer of the ABBA) is the famous Swedish drummer we all know, who played and recorded with several bands from the early 60's, among others:
"1961", The Invaders, The Spacemen, The Moonriders, The Ryders, The Partners a.s.o.
Per says: ""My Jig" is the title ! Written by my friend Johnny Lundin and recorded by his group ""Johnny Lundin Band". I know because I was on that record, by the way, there are two different versions, one acoustic and one on electric guitar!
Johnny was one of the top guitarists in Sweden in the early 60´s. He had a group called The Partners. We recreated that group last year."

Their composition tells alot about Per.O. and his partners talent.

Blessings,
Abel

Excellent Job !
I didn't know that P.O. Alm was also a composer, I knew he played drums with the various bands you quoted, and I have CDs from most of these bands, some of them kindly supplied to me by P.O. himself.

Hi Didier,

Good to see you around. There was no backing track for the tune, I had to play over the original minus the lead hence the considerable loss in quality (I probably should have left it alone).
Actually the composer is Johnny Lundin.
P.O. Alm plays the drums in the recording. I think we were mislead by the exclamation mark he inserted after the word "Title".

Blessings to all,
Abel

That is one amazing tune Abel and very well played by yourself - but then I wouldn't expect anything else! :D I've GOT to learn this number....do you know where I can get the backing track?

Cheers

Glad you liked it. The original is a beauty.

Martin,

For my BT, I tried to remove the lead from the original posted by P.O Alm a few years ago but it was a disaster as other parts were removed in the process too. Only the bass is prominent.
I'll look for the original and will post it, so that you can download it and do something better with it, but before that, I would like to have P.O. Alm's permission.

Blessings,
Abel

Thaks Abel....hopefully P.O. Alm will post the original track at some point just so I can hear what's going on. I know that removing the guitar from a track isn't always successful - and like you said, you can end up removing a whole lot else as well! If P.O.Alm is okay with it, I might try making my own backing track depending on the degree of difficulty, just so I can play this tune at our Toronto Sixties Music Club.

Thanks again
