I have often wondered if there is any archive material from the Polydor years? and if so is it more likely to be released before judgment day.

I believe they only recorded the set amount of titles required by Polydor, although they did record another vocal when Stuart Coleman produced them in the mid-eighties. I have a rough copy of it somewhere but cannot recall the title at the moment.

In the early 80s they played Peter Gunn live in concert and it was superb and I was hoping that a studio version would surface on an album but it never did so I assume it was never recorded at Honeyhill.

I hope the masters are stored somewhere else now that Honeyhill is flattened.
Brian had the tapes at his place because from 1980 onwards they owned their own masters and I think leased them to Polydor.

Hi Tone,
"Now that Honeyhill is flattened." Does this mean that Brian has ceased recording at Honeyhill and closed the entire studio?? I hadn't heard anything - or are you referring to the old studio at his former home?? I was lucky enough to spend a few hours with Brian at Honeyhill nearly 20 years ago now. Certainly there were lots of master tapes / reels for the Shadows Polydor albums stored there at the time (1991). I do recall that Brian told me that there was no unissed material from their Polydor era.

Bests....Rob :D

Hi Rob,

When I was driving to the 2011 Pipeline Convention I did a detour and the studio appeared to be gone so I assumed flattened. Brian spends a lot of time in Portugal and when in England has a cottage in a village near Radlett. I imagine space to store everything would have been a problem. I guess Brian B has retired or just goes to Warren's place to work.

Furthermore, Dick Plant no longer engineers/produces for the Bennetts so it's all change.

With no knowledge of studio procedures, it would be fascinating to know what decisions were made and how they were reached at that time.

As far as i know, Norrie wasn't one for keeping session tapes or out takes, he saw no value in keeping them and had many session tapes wiped or destroyed.
Also, there is 1 unreleased track from the Polydor era, it was recorded around the 'Guradian Angel' time (1984). I can't remember the title (its in the recording sessions book) and all i know is its a vocal track, maybe its been wiped now.

Yes Bri, there was a play in names, but if you post an email address (which now appears to be invalid), you should break it up, for eg. joebloggs(AT)wherever.com replacing (AT) with @. These sites are subject to Yahoo and Google visits/searches and related software could pick up 'complete' email addy's.

What Alan rightly recommends is called 'munging' and prevents automated software harvesting email addresses which can then be spammed.

Sure Jock, seen it happen many times here. It's akin to letting your house number out saying you're away for a month. If anyone gave my addy out onto the web I wouldn't be best pleased and cold mailing this guy is an intrusion.

I guess that the tapes were simply reused for new recordings...

I hope when I hit 70+ I'm not being chased halfway around the world by people demanding me to make music that I have no interest in making, with people I no longer have an interest in being creatively associated with. You could almost say that, by that age, I'd have done everything that I was required to do, and should be entitled to enjoy my retirement in peace.
