Some videos with my new amp

Postby Rosemary » 09 May 2012, 12:56

Hi
A couple of months ago I upgraded my amp to a VOX AC15 and made a few recordings played through my Zoom G2.1Nu and Charlie's EFTP. I'm really happy with the tone now and don't think I'd ever need to upgrade amps again (unless it wears out and then I'd replace it with the same if necessary). They're in order of the fewest mistakes :)

Hi Rosemary, Very well played especially Peace Pipe(tone and playing), I've never been too keen on H&M and my 1st time hearing Santa Anna, looking back you have made tremendous strides in your playing, keep playing/enjoying.

Yes Rosemary, I totally agree with Keith. You have improved so much since we first heard you play. You must practice a lot I'm guessing, which of course makes all the difference 8-)
I'm sure the live playing at your new club has helped a lot too.

Thanks very much Hugh and Keith
It's just over 2 years since I started playing and I've put in lots of practice but still have a long, long way to go :) It slowly gets easier though and I'm also building up strength in my fingers and seem to be able to stretch further too which also helps.
I realised I forgot to play the second verse of Santa Ana an octave higher which I usually do and there's also a note in the chords missing which I'll have to check up on. Maybe it was one I couldn't reach so I left it out for the time being. :) It's one of my favourite Shadows tunes.
Best wishes

Might be time to learn some major minor and seventh runs to help with the stretch and neck knowledge now.
I do them every day before I play any tunes.
I've learned them in five and sometimes seven different positions on the neck.
Because of the time it takes, I do a major day then a minor day and so on.
The pentatonic scale is great for learning the neck and fairly easy to learn.
Here's an example I found this morning. Dont worry about the boy racer in the video  but his info is what you are looking for.
And try use your pinky wherever you can, I notice he like many guitarists misses it out sometimes, but the object of the exercise is helping you stretch and good fingerwork as well as learning the neck. When I'm doing them, I do an a minor or minor seventh chord before the run to get my ear into the sound.

Once I learned the am pentatonics, I then did them in major, for the major sound you only have to play a c sixth chord in front of the runs you already know and once your ear picks it up, you're off. I also changed them to seventh dominant (a7) runs by changing all the c notes to c sharp which makes it a seventh run. Again, just play an a7 chord in front for you ear to pick up the run. And once you learn them off by heart, you can then do different picking techniques to build up your right hand for strenth and accuracy, and it makes them much more interesting to play and you dont then treat it as a task you've got to do.
You'll be amazed how it trains your ear in time and will help with learning new tunes in the future.
Hope this helps. Hugh.
