(O/T, but doesn't it look odd now seeing someone smoking in a recording studio?)

Just received it today and listening to it right now (it takes a little more time to cross the Channel).

Wow...this really is an excellent CD. Got my copy this morning and have been listening to it all day.... I cannot believe that there has not been more postings about it. Just loving the attention to detail... great sound, nice packaging and great recreations of original Columbia label style on the actual CD's themselves.... Now all we need is to be patient and await the release devoted exclusively to The Shadows.... judging by how good this release is, the results will be spectacular.

I also have received my copy today, it was in the mailbox when I came home from work. I have listened to some tracks already and must say John and his team did an absolutely fantastic job! My thanks also goes to Bernie Andrews for preserving these fantastic and historically important recordings! The presentation of the sleeve and booklet are also first-rate, with fascinating facts on history and in-depth session details. Well done! Here's to the next volume!

It seems a random running order, but fascinating listening and well worth the wait!

Sounds as if Hank hadn't yet quite mastered the intro to Move It from the 4 hour December 23rd 1958 session, but Hang Up My Rock 'N' Roll Shoes (the previous track, 15th November 1960) is, for me, outstanding with Bruce on acoustic rhythm - Gibson J200, I wonder?

Not.

That didn't arrive until 1959 at the earliest.

Jim,
Re - read the comment, talking about "Hang Up My R ' n' R Shoes" from November 1960.. (Two observations made....that Hank wasn't completley 'au fait' with the "Move It" intro in late 1958....then Bruce's acoustic rhythm work in 1960). Thus, how likely was it that Bruce was probably still using Cliff's J200? (Personal thought....probably highly likely).

Bests....Rob :D

One point about the session file accompanying the set - the August and October 1959 sessions are credited to the Drifters. Certainly, by the time of the October session, they had become the Shadows, although I have never known exactly when the name change took place.
