Hope you don't mind but I removed the earlier examples as I have re-recorded with heavier strings and to my ears it sounds a lot closer to the original as expected.
Remember, this is an example of what the eTap2hw is capable of and I don't think I have ever heard an example of Apache as close to the original recording as this current one - I have compared it with the record and it's very close. I dare say that with a set of 13/56 Gibson Sonomatic strings played in for a week or two, it would be possible to achieve what we thought was impossible, but it's all in the tone of the echo and I certainly hear it on this. I stand corrected of course, as I'm sure I will be. Tin hat in place.

Well done Dave !
Thanks for all your time & effort in posting these files

To me this proves that the Etap is the best echo emulator out their today. 8-)

The TVS is a "system" & has a lot more inside "the box" than echo emulation so comparisons with the Etap are going to be almost impossible to conduct properly.

Ah well, what are opinions for if you don't express them :)

I've got a spare tin hat so I'll go with Dave in the bunker for a while

If I may raise a small voice of dissent, I don't think the heavy strings have had the attention they deserve. The difference they make is incredible.

To all those struggling to get 'That Sound' with 10-46's and their ilk, I say, change to 12-52's as I recently did.

(Still not yet taken the plunge and fitted a wound third though.)

I'm glad that some of you can hear the difference in the strings. I have written about this and described how the thickness of the strings change the 'voice' of the guitar on several occasions. The lighter gauges of strings have longer sustain and tend to 'sing' whilst the heavier we go, the notes tend to shorten considerably, which is apparent when listening to the old records.
Danny Martin and I were having another listen to the original and agreed that the strings on Hank's Strat sounded quite dead and obviously even heavier - possibly 13/56 ? I'm tempted to try it once again with this set up, but the object of the recordings is really to prove that the Etap2hw is capable of doing the business and I don't think even the staunchest non believers can deny that the sound is there on the latest recordings - so, is there any point in doing it ?

My enthusiasm for the eTap2hw is borne out of hearing the different Meazzi patterns and the 'voice' of the heads that is programmed into it, Something that is lacking on most solid state stuff, though the Atlantis and TVS3 have similar qualities to the ear. Fact is that many folks won't hear it at all though, so whether or not it matters to your regular punter in the audience is debatable.
