Finally managed to download and listen to the last sample Dave... Wow that is it best I have heard yet for Apache... and therefore proves the etap2HW without question. I did a/b it against the TVS Apache on their site and on this occassion this version wins for me. Not that Gary Taylors version is lacking in anyway but the sound is nearer on this soundfile to my ears. Piet must be happy if he has heard this.

Now, a comparison please

Postby abstamaria » 02 Dec 2012, 23:33

Yes, it sounds good. It would be good to do an A and B now, both against the original recording, as Paul did before. My ears are still good but my memory not so! That would be quite interesting.

But an objective, good natured, friendly discussion, please. Life's too short!

Goog work, Dave, Piet.

And it does seem heavy strings make a difference. A big one.

Here you are Andy, same order as before: Shadows, eTap; Shadows, TVS3.

I trust that most can hear the differences.

Paul.

Paul.

Before getting into differences in the lead sound, I have to say that the biggest difference that I can hear plainly is in the backing. Namely, the TVS3 backing is the original, while Dave's backing is somehow different. It not only sounds different, but it has a different "spatial distribution" if you know what I mean. So right away, I can spot Dave's version from the other two by its different backing, and that gives it a certain disadvantage when making the comparison because the backing definitely influences the way we hear the lead. I'm sure that the comparison would be much more interesting if Dave's version had the very same backing as the original.
