How much to replace neck binding

Postby Billyboygretsch » 21 Mar 2013, 20:59

I have some missing and broken neck binding on a Split Sonic. I am never going to find the exact binding but have been offered replacement with aged finish for £150. I have never had neck binding replaced - thought of doing it myself - is this a good price ? Is it easy to do yourself
Thanks
Bill

£150 does not sound expensive for a good professional job. Believe me, you'll know all about it if the binding is even just a tiny bit out of line.

That's INSANELY expensive given the lack of difficulty of the job imo.

It's not like the binding on the V/A Deluxes has frets on top of it, right? Just do it yourself...once it's glued in place it'd just be a case of gently sanding it flush with the rest of the neck, so as you get close, switch to a super fine grit- 1500 or so to make sure you impact as little as possible on the original finish, then buff it out.

Easy! Oh, and from seeing pictures of your guitar, it's only an inch or two missing, right? Just replace that...there'll be a small join, but at least it'd be an honest repair, and should be pretty hard to notice without really close inspection.
