Over the Rainbow

Postby Phil McGarrick » 13 Nov 2009, 00:01

This is a recording of my daughter-in-law Lisa (Andrew's wife ) singing Over the Rainbow using Tony Kiek's BT .

I'm sure Tony's BT would make a good instrumental .

Hope you like it.. Phil

Hi Phil

That sounded just beautiful. Your daughter in law has such a laid-back style and a wonderful soulful voice. I really liked the Tony Kiek BT arrangement too. I liked the way daughter in law improvised with harmony and judiciously used double-tracked harmonised parts here and there.

Thanks Phil,

Lisa has done a fabulous job on this one; she is a really wonderful singer and has great feeling in her singing. A truly excellent and professional performance from Lisa.

I made the BT in the style of the late Eva Cassidy after hearing Eva's Songbird CD at a dinner party last year, and I was hooked, not only by her arrangement of this classic old song, but by her guitar technique which I have tried to emulate on the recording.

The instrumental version, played in a Shadows style by maestro George Lewis, can be heard in full at the OzzieTrax website at http://www.turningpointcd.com/page5.htm and the backing track can be purchased at http://www.turningpointcd.com/page6.htm

The intrumentation and orchestration was all done on a Yamaha PSR3000 synth/arranger coupled to a Yamaha Motif XS7 workstation and recorded and mastered using Audacity via a SoundBlaster Xtreme HiFi sound card on a PC. I'll leave George to say how he did the lead guitar track which he emailed to me, all the mixing was organised over the internet, we have never actually played it "live" together.

Many thanks Bojan, Len, Tony & Ian for your kind comments.

I'll pass these on to Lisa who will be chuffed. She's hoping to make a video recording of it soon.

I thought it would make a great instrumental but didn't know George had recorded it - and a very fine job he has done listening to Tony's
demo track. Well done George.

Thanks Tony for another great BT.

Cheers Phil

Hi Phil

You must be very proud of your D-I-L.
She has a fabulous natural voice that can easily touch the "heart strings".
May she be blessed with good health to bring this kind of enchantment to more peoples lives now and forever.
Loved it!

Great post mate!

PS: Very nice BT from Tony K.
