I know this thread goes back a while, but last year I bought a strat style baritone neck from USA and married it to a strat style body, on the basis that my Jaguar has a very short scale, 11/2" shorter than a strat, or efectively starts at the first fret of a strat I decided that as this baritone neck was roughly 28" that would also be around fret one on a 30" scale bass.

I put a set of 30" scale 6 string bass strings and it plays fine, but always hankering after the real deal when the new pawn shop bass VI was released I tried one out and found to my delight that my home put together job plays better and rattles less.

Of course if you finger play it all gets a bit noisy but played with a plectrum it's fine.

These are probably rarer than the guitar. Scared to use them but will measure the guages at some stage.

James How was founder of Rotosound in 1965 ,so maybe the strings pre date the name change?

HI Geoff,

Was that a Warmoth baritone neck you used?

From what I can gather from their website catalogues, I think they cleverly make short and long scale non-standard necks for solidbodies which are made when fitted to be at the right scale length for the bridge locations/positions when used with a range of different bodies (Strat, Jag Tele etc)
