Equinox Part V The Final Tour version. + free Tabs

Postby Phil McGarrick » 10 Jul 2014, 22:11

Recorded using my Fender Custom 56 NOS with Kinman Impersonator 54’s V3 pickups.
The recording is based on The Shadows Final Tour Version (2004)
I have used clips of Cliff Hall’s Keyboards for the Solo & Ending taken from the Final Tour DVD.

The final tour DVD was filmed at Cardiff indoor Arena and I was fortunate enough to have a front seat right in line with Hank.

I have made rough Tabs of the way I think Hank played it which are available to download from my website here http://www.philmcgarrick.co.uk/scores.html

Using my Alesis Quadraverb Q2 patch 0-39 into Cubase via sound card. (No Amp used)

Video made with 3x Sony SR12’s and edited in Sony Vegas.

Hope you like my Cover of The Shadows cover of Jean Michel Jarre’s Equinox V

Cheers Phil

Phil

It is well known that Hank uses a lot of upstrokes. For most tunes it does not matter whether one uses upstroke or downstrokes. On this tune I think it really does matter. I think it would sound "better'--the melody would accentuated--if you were to use primarily upstrokes.

regards

Hi Michael - I welcome constructive comments and suggestions and understand what you are saying.
I've looked at the DVD again of Hank playing this one live and for the double stops he plays a down stroke with the plectrum for the lower note and picks the upper string with his 3rd finger - This is what I did for most of it, but agree the melody would be more accentuated if I did that all the way through.

Cheers Phil

Greeting from sunny Glastonbury, Phil.
Another Ace Job!!
Technically b----y hard to play whether up or downstrokes. Done to a tee, as always.
Love to watch your fingerwork. The vids are a great source of info.
Good to see the Cotton Traders shorts back in action!! :D

Hi Fred - thank you very much for your nice comments which I always apprecate.
I'm glad you liked it :)

Hi Ian - Didn't they tell you the Glastonbury festival was last week !
Thanks very much for the nice comments - I used the DVD to learn the song then found the UB Hank BT was
quite different hence the cutting and pasting as I didn't want to re-write the tabs.
Yes shorts time again long may this weather continue.

All the best... Phil

Hello Phil - an excellent version of this tune.

It's a tune that I have a lot of trouble with due to the timing. I guess that I just haven't persevered enough but your version is most enjoyable.
