Vintage Burns Prices

Postby Billyboygretsch » 17 Jul 2014, 11:45

It seems that silly season is here again. Vibra Artiste £1450. Split Sonic 6 string bass £1850 both on eBay at moment. Latter one states only 20 made! 100% but it's missing tremolo and cover. The secondhand market can be crazy. The broken Artiste neck broken off in two places lots of bits missing went for £255 ! Could it be classed as Relic
There must be thousands of various brand guitars at ridiculously high prices. Seems if it's old it's good. I had some terrible strats in late 60s early 70s. Would prefer a brand new MIM to them.

Hi Bill

Yes i must admit im of the same thought as you, some of the guitars built in the 60s and 70s etc probably arent any where near the modern standards of even some of the cheaper stuff let alone the high end guitars but i guess some people must like it as they are prepared to pay for it. That said if Bruce ever decided he no longer wanted 34346 anymore i would gladly look after it for him

That smashed up vibra artiste final price is just insane!. Obviously someone wanted a real challenge, or seriously needed a particular spare part!.
I agree with the MIM Stratocasters , they're great. I played a few and they were lovely. I tried an original 60s one once, and it was crap. I think people get a bit too rosy eyed about them, they weren't THAT good.
The build quality of the Burns guitars at the time, say 63 onwards, blew Fender away.
