AWAY IN A MANGER-Ian and Robin

[Stratpicker]

A classic British Christmas Carol.
This UK version of the Carol is sung to a tune called ‘Cradle Song’ written in 1895 by William Kirkpatrick. Its different to the tune used in the USA etc. Its in 3/4 tempo and I 'experimented' slightly with the chording Arrangement in Verse 3 – I hope you don't mind.
The superb video to that goes with it was made by my good friend and fellow ShadowMusic member Robin Woods (aka CVFilms) from Bridlington who died just before Christmas last year, waiting, waiting, waiting for the NHS to operate on his serious heart condition. It was originally his suggestion to put this sound file to his video – I hope you think it works, I do.

The location is Burton Agnes Hall in East Yorkshire.
Video is in HD – I hope that it plays for you – I dont know how to reduce the file size of a .mov file whilst keeping the quality.

thanks for listening to our Christmas Carol and your kind sentiments.
The chord changes in the third verse? You either love 'em or hate 'em I guess. They're just simple inversions and substitutions and the idea was to bulk up the final verse with a bit more of a Blockbuster sound that you could imaging yourself singing to with gusto.
Masterclass BIAB? No way! - there are guys on the PG Forum who just blow me away with the level of their skill, but thanks for the compliment.

As Christmassy as you would want it. You kept it simple and played it with feeling which added extra to the number. That's a super BT you made and the whole thing is a great tribute you your lost friend.

John - I couldnt AFFORD to live in a house like that. Itsa huge Hall and the grounds are vast. I'd hate to pay even the Council Tax on it.

I have to say, Ian, that I wouldn't have thought "Away In A Manger" would work as an instrumental. A song with no bridge, or middle 8, just a verse that repeats - and minus the words. How wrong can you be? In your more-than-capable hands it works extremely well. Your arrangement, along with the very nice inversions in the last verse, prevent it becoming repetitive. Very well done!
