Removing rest of glue on a new guitar

Postby kittycph » 08 Dec 2009, 14:59

Hi
One of my colleges have bought a new Fender Stratocaster.
After he removed the thin plasticcover, there is still some rest of glue.
What can he use to remove the glue, without making any marks on the guitar?

Best regards
Kitty

Hi Kitty,

Where is the glue that has been left behind, is it on the scratchplate?

If the plastic you are reffering to was the thin sheeting on the scratchplate, there should be no glue. The sheet material the scratchplates are made from has this covering applied and there is no glue on it.

Cheers

Hi

Thank you for the help.
Barry: It was on the scratchplate and there were a thin layer of glue.
Derek: Thanks for the link, but it should be today. He is going to sell it and will take a picture.
Now we have used cooking oil. That worked. :-)

Hi Kitty,

Cooking oil may not look or smell nice but it will certainly add to the taste. :D

The reason I said there would be no glue, the thin plastic covering on the scratchplate is applied by spraying it onto the full sheet before it is cut into shape, no glue needed.

Cheers

White spirit would have been harmless too and would most likely have removed any sticky residue from the guitar :)
Cooking oil :o That must have left another kind of mess to clean off the guitar :?

I wouldn't put nail varnish remover on a guitar !
It could fetch the paint off.
