TODAY I STARTED LOVING YOU AGAIN-Collab by Kay and Ian

Postby Stratpicker » 21 Feb 2015, 20:56

Hi All
A couple of weeks ago Kay asked me if I was interested in collaborating on a C&W tune.
Its not my usual genre and was a bit out of my Comfort Zone, but I like a Challenge and thought “Why not”.
So, here it is. Its a Merle Haggard C&W song from 1967 and was reworked recently by Sammi Smith. Our arrangement is based on that version.
The Fun and Games of long distance communications (and big time differences) slowed things down a bit. A few technical glitches between our recording systems didnt help either but in the end we got there.
Not being a C&W player, I originally elected just to make the BT and play the first verse straight leaving the rest to the Expert – Kay. However, he was having none of that and bullied me (lol) into playing some infills and harmonies.
So - Verse 1 is yours truly with my Brason Strat for Lead and harmony.
Verse 2 is 100% Kay – I just love the sound of that Charvel-Jackson!!
Verse 3 is Kay on Lead on his Lap Strat - “Steelocaster” - with me wandering in and out with harmonies and infills again.
BT is 100% Band In A Box.
We hope you like it.

Hi Ian and Kay - Great collaboration! Nice contrast the Strat, Charvel-Jackson and the steel guitar sounds - Makes me feel I should be in Hawaii supping a few cocktails ! Amazing how you put this together being other sides of the pond.
well done to you both with the playing and BIAB BT.
All the best.. Phil

Very nice arrangement and performance......BIAB does very well instead of human beings!........the Collaboration idea is good, something that could be explored a bit more often perhaps and involve players to reduce the automation required?

Cheers, TTT

Hi
On behalf of Kay and myself - thank you for your kind comments. They are much appreciated.
Phil - the hard part of the guitar track recordings was getting everything to line up!! :D The BT was the easy bit. I weouldnt mind a Hawaiian cocktail or two either.
Tim - I have no keyboard, other than my QWERTY so I am so glad for BIAB. I pleased you thought it worked out. I agree - more Collabs is a great idea.
cheers

Great playing Kay and Ian. Have no idea of the technical stuff involved in producing the track but the end result was worth the effort. Well done guys. Mines a sex on the beach (lol)

Cheers
