Also, according to the book, The Shadows by Themselves, Tony's first gig was the Manchester Free Trade Hall concert in early January.

According to Ulrich's listing, the Free Trade Hall gig was on 10th January, and it was Tony supposedly on the Drifters' initial Feelin' Fine session held the previous day (9th January).

Hi Stuart, hi Bill,
Many thanks for pointing this out. I have checked again my records and it looks as if I have relied too much onto the information as printed in the concert programmes. I have amended the list with Tony Meehan on drums from 10th of January onwards. This now leaves some questions regarding the drummer at the concert in Salisbury two days earlier on the 8th. Possibly someone third was on drums then.

Just re-reading the relevant section of the book reminded me that particular occasion, reportedly a harrowing experience for Tony, including collapsing drumkit, represented something of stark contrast of general performing venues of the time, from the cramped basement conditions of the 2i's in Soho to the imposing concert stage of the Manchester's Free Trade Hall... it must have been the making of the man!

Hi all,

when completing the concert list for 1959 I noticed that this would result in a very long list which would be quite uncomfortable to read. Thus I have converted the list into a Word document (old .doc format) which you should be able to download and then use all features of your word processing program to browse through.
You can find the concert list for 1958 attached to this message. For the following years I will post a new message with the year in the header of the message.
A feedback whether this seems to be an acceptable way would be great.
