Quartet

Postby GoldenStreet » 09 May 2016, 11:19

Here's a vintage picture of Quartet, from c. 1969-70, i.e. Messrs. Tarney, Spencer, Peek and Britten, though I have to admit I am not entirely sure which is which in the line-up?

Apart from a couple of Decca singles, they also recorded an album for the label which has never been released.

Thanks for the post Bill!

I've been interested in finding any information about Quartet for years!

I don't suppose you have the singles they made, or are they on YouTube please? I'd love to hear them! I was aware of the unreleased album too..

All four members of Quartet were in bands in the '60's here in Adelaide, South Australia, where I have lived since 1963- Terry was lead guitarist for The Twilights, and Kevin, Alan and Trevor played lead, bass and drums for both the James Taylor Move and earlier the legendary Johnny Broome and the Handels (!)

I used to see the groups regularly and learnt more about playing guitar from them than any tutor!

They were and are great musicians, although Kevin sadly died a few years ago.

Details of the UK Decca singles ('fraid I don't possess either!)...

Joseph (A-side of the 1970 single) appears to be the only track (from the US release) posted on YouTube...

There are brief references to Quartet in the Wikipedia articles on Alan Tarney and the Tarney/Spencer Band...

I was able to purchase one song by Quartet from amazon. It is called "When Will My Lady Come." Here is the link. I am not sure whether it works in other countries.

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=when+will+my+lady+come%2C+quartet

The two 45's by Quartet were:

A-side: Joseph
B-side: Mama Where Did You Fail

A-side: Now
B-side: When Will My Lady Come

Here, also, are two recent newspaper articles about Alan Tarney:

Great pic!

My guess would be - TARNEY, SPENCER, BRITTEN and PEEK.

I wonder if 'Joseph' was the same 'Joseph' as on Cliff's album 'Small Corners'...

Well 'tracked' down, Donna, but unfortunately it comes up as unavailable with me!

Ta. Had a feeling it might be.

'Small Corners', by the way, (also featuring Alan Tarney and Brian Bennett) is a brilliant album - one of Cliff's best. IMHO.
