I'm unsure how 'America' would sound as a guitar track, wonder if Hank will stick knives into the organ? :D

Yes did the best version of America by combining both, no point in anyone trying to follow that.

S&G, Neil Diamond ?

My money's on the Leonard Bernstein "West Side Story" tune. He has got a trumpet player in to do a solo or perhaps infills. BE good to hear what HAnk and Co do as an Arrangement.
ELPs version was awesome but is so very dated (And I'm a long time Nice and ELP fan!!).
Neil Diamonds song is superb but is possibly too "Symphonic" to be a guitar piece.
Who knows? Let the interest continue.

So what's the link?

Hank plays the 60's ?

Hank Plays the Great Composers?

So far - L&Mc (2), Mancini and maybe Simon (I'd go for the Simon composition as Hank is a great fan I seem to recall). If it's not SImon's there's still another great composer in the offing!

On the basis of the list so far, I'd venture to suggest it will be Hank Plays Boring.

Must be the first ever CD to be written off before it's even recorded?!?!

Personally 'boring' is listening to endless jamming meanderings around blues scales - and then having to appear cool and pretend to like such rubbish.

I think there should be a 'Hank Plays Beach Boys.' Just saying, but then I'm a Beach Boys fan as well. :D
He has already done God Only Knows & Good Vibrations with The Shadows, plus with Cliff they did the Do You Wanna Dance cover about 3 years before The Beach Boys did it and Hank did California Girls on his last album.
Always thought the BBs instrumental, 'Summer Means New Love' on the album 'Summer Days Summer Nights' sounds quite similar and gives the same vibe & feel to 'Spring Is Nearly Here' on the 'Out Of The Shadows' album.
I think Hank would do an excellent version of 'Surfer Girl' & 'In My Room.' The Morley pedal comes to mind. :)

Given that next year is their DIAMOND anniversary, I'd like to see (hear) Hank and the others record a new version of 'Diamonds'. I'm sure they could do a better job than they did in the early 80s with the awful over-produced version with parping synths etc.

I can't see anything particularly exciting or unexciting about the selection on Hank's new album. Let's face it, he's not likely to be recording an instrumental version of Ace of Spades or Number of the Beast is he? It might be good, it might not. There's a 50/50 chance either way.
