I know this is probably a very daft idea, but with all these Shadows fans here, who play, why can't one of them write a good original instrumental?

A point I made earlier in this thread Martin; however it seems to have slipped under the radar. I get the impression that fans simply want to hear "Hank plays...whoever."

If you want to hear good, modern, original instrumental music, try listening to Tommy Emmanuel's It's Never Too Late CD. I bought this recently after seeing him at Birmingham Town Hall and he was superb - as ever. I'm sure that even if you weeded out all the mediocre/'sounds-like-something-else' stuff you'd still have enough good original tunes from members of this site to keep Hank recording 16-track albums every few years until he was 100! That's not what he and/or his record company want to do.

(I've written a few myself! I sent a demo tape up to Barry Gibson about 20 years ago - when the Local Heroes were recording their CD ). One day the Colin Moderne CD will be recorded - and I'll be the only person who listens to it!! (I'll get that in before anyone else does!!!)

I'll buy it Clive, as long as you promise to buy mine!

(I now have enough tracks recorded (or about to be recorded) for an all-new guitar instrumentals CD of at least 12 tracks.)

Hank has put out a video on facebook today confirming one track is an original written by himself and Ben.

I hope it's a fairly rocky number like 'Hot Rox' (from Heartbeat) which is an outstand track, it was also the first time i heard ben playing.

Seems there is also backing vocals on some tracks with Thalia contributing as well as others. Could be very much like the heartbeat album

I think the Heartbeat album is the best of his later solo works, it does contain some questionable tracks such as Achy breaky Heart but also has some excellent tracks such as Oxygene, Take Five, Hot Rox and Space Oddity.
Hope his new album is in a similar vein.
