Hi Bojan
EXCELLENT!! Really good copy of the track!! Spot on!!
SOunds like you have to "attack" the strings to get some of 'that sound' but what ARE the Custom Settings on your Korg Ampworks. Have you set up a special program for it?
cheers

Every version of My Resistance Is Low I have ever heard - including the Shadows' recording - has just been a simple re-write of the original Hoagy Carmichael recorded arrangement, complete with the three-four time signature (not the version on the film clip referenced above, though that is similar).

If you have Spotify, I have placed several versions of MRIL at this URL:

spotify:user:jimbon:playlist:0ICVoqaRygbyIkTBDTSuki [copy'n'paste]

They include the HG original commercial recording, a near-perfect 1976 stereo re-recording of exactly the same arrangement by Robin Sarstedt, an attractive ballroom waltz version by no less than Joe Less, er, I mean Loss. And a waltz medley by Reginald Dixon which includes the same tune (third of three).

There are two versions by Bing Crosby on Spotify, but to be honest, they must have been done in the seventies, because Bing's voice is clearly past its best. Not a good way to remember him. The Shadows' version is there too (most of their EMI catalogue is available on that site), but not the 1960/61 EMI minor hit recording by Jim Dale, similar to Hoagy's version and almost certainly the catalyst for the Shads including the song on their first LP.

Thanks Jim
I had forgotten how good the Robin Sarsted version one - as smooth a silk. What a great voice.

Thanks Ian. I'm not quite satisfied yet. I'm tweaking the psp608 Delay EQ settings to get a more realistic Meazzi Echomatic sound. I think the EQ has to be turned up a bit . . . When I foind the right sound I'll update this soundfile.

As a matter of fact, I did not attack the strings very much at all. Just a little bit. I think that the most important thing is to get the dry sound right. For that I go through the Ampworks and into my Zoom 508, which is set to bypass mode and acts only to boost the signal because I do not go into an amp but directly into the Line In on my PC sound card.

Once I made the dry recording, I add to that a wonderful little plugin called psp Vintage Warmer, which adds tube warmth and some compression to the dry signal. Sometimes I also use Cakewalks own Parametric equalizer to add some more mids . . . and that is the dry signal to which I apply the echo plugin. Then I "bounce" that to a new track and create the wet track to which I add three more plugins: Wow & Flutter, Imperfection for dirt and noise, and reverb. The final sound is a balance between the dry and the wet tracks . . . and that's it.

As for the Ampworks, I have created a special program for the Strat and a special program for the Apache.

The "Strat program" is based on the AC15 + 1x 112Vox cabinet with the mid setting turned up all the way and the treble and bass turned down to about 8:30 or 9:00 . . . The gain is turned down to about 9:30 or 10:00 and the volume is turned up all the way. Nothing else.

Perhaps it would be simpler just to cash out a couple of thousand bucks and buy an AC15 Heritage and a TVS3 . . . but that would be too easy (and expensive) . . . this way is more interesting (and cheaper).

Hi Bojan
A Most excellent expanation, my friend - very comprehensive.
I shall try these settings tonight and see how I get on. I dont have any of the VST plugins, so I'll bhave to research on the Net.

Now you know I am a fan of yours pal, and I have often complimented you on your vintage tone from your Brason Strat but I don't hear it on this one (I would have put a smiley in here but I haven't figured out how to work them yet!!)
It sounds to me like there is not enough twang on those bottom strings! Either that or my ears are getting too old! Maybe I am being too critical but as a fan I feel entitled (smiley here!)

:D pAL . . . where have you been!!!!! This place is not the same without you!!! Are you still in that nature place where you have your summer home and where you watch birds or does this post mean you have come to civilization for the winter!!!

I am genuinely happy to "see" you . . Please don't disappear again . . . :D :D :D

Good to "see" (and hear!) you too pal. Well, I am back in civilisation for the winter but I will still have to regularly visit my little hidey-hole as I have 4 bird surveys to carry out over the next 4 winter months, as well as some particular species to track down, but inbetween times I just may get around to playing a bit of guitar if I can remember how!!
And I still cannot get the smileys to work!
