Roger,

With a program like Spectralayers it is possible to remove any reverb along with the residual notes and echo tails, provided of course that they don't overlap too much with the frequencies of other essential parts of the backing. It takes a lot of patience to use but the results can be excellent. There is a demo available on the Sony site that gives a bit of insight into how it can do it.

Hi Paul,
listen to spring again and you will find it has the same amount of wow i did, i am more exposed with no backing track, same as nos like cosy etc,
So you also agree the shads backings enhance the sound of your echo unit, i am intrigued how are you able to use original shads tracks ,
yes i suppose i could send a few notes ,would be very beneficial for you and perhaps fill in the missing links ,but i would have to be on the board for that one lol !
regards,
Phil.

Hi Phil,

I think that maybe you are being a bit mischievous in misrepresenting what I said. I didn't say that using Shadows backings enhances the sound of the TVS3. What I did say is that it is necessary to use Shadows minus Hank backings in order to do a meaningful direct A-B comparison with the original tracks, the only reference available to most of us. This is because the perception of the lead tone is influenced by the backing, but this is not to say that it is enhanced, only affected. Furthermore this has nothing to do with the presence of any residual sound from the lead, as you alluded to in your original posting. It is very low in the backings we use, and of course totally absent in the tunes posted by people who make their own Shadows-like backings, such as Phil Coggan, and who also seem to be able to get very close to the original lead sound. And it would be generous of you to acknowledge my mention of all the other tunes posted using a TVS3 that are either not Shadows tunes or use totally different backings and amply demonstrate the sound of the TVS3.

Regards,

Paul.

Can't play it without downloading, which I don't wish to do. Can you not put it on Soundcloud or similar so it will stream ? :)

Thanks Paul I will check that out. I am sure you are right and it really is about how much time you want to spend doing this to get the result. I personally have no gripe about using an original backing to compare against the original. You have demonstrated many times how close you get with the TVS which remains a top echo unit to have along with the other contenders including eTap2 and H&C echo.

Anyway off to check out Spectral Layers now ! :)

With regard to Sony Spectral layers there is a similar facility in Adobe Audition (6) that I have had a look at, It seems to work in the same way as Spectral Layers program does as far as I can see for info.

Not as complete as Spectral Layers but
