Hi Phil,
I think that maybe you are being a bit mischievous in misrepresenting what I said. I didn't say that using Shadows backings enhances the sound of the TVS3. What I did say is that it is necessary to use Shadows minus Hank backings in order to do a meaningful direct A-B comparison with the original tracks, the only reference available to most of us. This is because the perception of the lead tone is influenced by the backing, but this is not to say that it is enhanced, only affected. Furthermore this has nothing to do with the presence of any residual sound from the lead, as you alluded to in your original posting. It is very low in the backings we use, and of course totally absent in the tunes posted by people who make their own Shadows-like backings, such as Phil Coggan, and who also seem to be able to get very close to the original lead sound. And it would be generous of you to acknowledge my mention of all the other tunes posted using a TVS3 that are either not Shadows tunes or use totally different backings and amply demonstrate the sound of the TVS3.
Regards,
Paul.
