I too have made the mistake of offering constructive criticism when it isn't really what was required, but then people shouldn't ask if they don't want to hear.
I have picked up quite a bit from folks commenting on stuff that I have recorded, whether it be run of the mill Shadows tunes demonstrating the capability of a new piece of kit, or something a little different or even our own compositions.
Those who complain about repetition of classics should be mindful that when I post them it is usually because they have been asked for to demonstrate whether an echo machine can or cannot do the business as required by a perspective buyer.
Only very recently, someone asked me to go through the song list comparing echo A with echo B, but that ship sailed when the Hall & Collins arrived.
What I have done is demonstrate that budget amps are more than enough to get a result at home.
I play a whole selection of stuff on a regular basis to packed theatre audiences, so I don't really bother too much about whether or not anyone here makes favourable comments or not, it's the people that pay my wages and keep me in guitars and cars that matter to me.
As for making comments of my own, if it's something I like and can see the hard work that's gone into it, then I generally support it, but if I don't like it or think it's rubbish, I think it best to say nothing, apart from sometimes trying to offer constructive criticism. Like I said, even that isn't always welcome.
I decided long ago to let people go on making the same mistakes, it's not worth the hassle to bother saying anything.
As for Ecca's claim about the tittle tattle amongst members not commenting because they didn't receive a comment, there's probably truth in that too.
I am at the moment going through the process of getting back playing again having been disabled through the results of chemotherapy which destroyed the nerves in my hands, so I suppose I do feel pleased when someone notices I'm getting it back, as David M mentioned in a thread recently.
I made that comment a few weeks ago when I saw Bob had made the effort with an original track that I thought was good, but there were many 'takers' but no encouragement for him, which peed me of somewhat, but what's new around here ? It's always been that way. It's becoming the way of the world and it's a worse place for it. A polite message of thanks costs nothing.
