For the person who thought the Zoom G3x no good

I see there has been some doubt about the capability of the Zoom G3x as a good device for Shadows echoes.
Above is my track of seven months ago using my own settings on that device. I can recommend the Zoom G3/ G3x and you can hear why. I have to say that any problems with this machine are probably down to the user not understanding how to achieve this, rather than the device being poor. The patches from Ross Hall are the best way of getting the best from this machine. :)

Hi Dave,

I have had a good response from "petercreasey" so he has confirmed my approach to programming the G3x is the way to do it. I have not missed anything.

Your rendition of Wonderful land with the G3x is excellent and shows the G3x is value for money. It's just that playing alongside others with Zoom RFX2000's and the new Hall and Collins unit - you can get close - but there is a difference.

It's a pity the multi-tap patch is not programmable as one would like - if it were the G3x would be absolutely perfect. Has anyone thought of the forum approaching Zoom to see if they will add a programmable multi-tap along the lines of a Zoom RFX 2000?

regards

Yes Stuart, Peter has explained it very well and it is exactly the way I did my programmes. I too tried the Multitap function and quickly saw that the patterns weren't going to do what was needed. Bear in mind that 99% of the feedback on Shadows tracks is from head 4. If you need the timings I do have them if you want to PM me, but I think that Peter covered it. Don't forget that the Wonderful Land pattern (all four heads on with 1-2-3- lower than the fourth in level), is used for Kon Tiki, The Savage, Dance On, TFYL, Atlantis, Shindig,Peace Pipe and a load more, all with slightly different head levels and regen (feedback).

I have the Hall & Collins too and though it is excellent and fast to use in a live situation I believe that the Zoom G3x is difficult to tell apart when programmed correctly. That said I am back using the ESE Echomatic now and that came about through considering selling it but I found out just in time. I'm pleased you are able to move forward and will surely get some good results with your Zoom G3. :)
